Prairie House

Villa Gesell, Argentina

With the intent of extending views of the landscape through the house, the building is reduced to a sheltering roof floating over an open plan. Fully operable wood and glass doors on both sides of the open plan can open up the interior space to the outside. The exposed timber structure, along with the use of stone on the central free standing fireplace, help give the house a sense of the traditional country cottage through the use of materials. The roof structure, as a definition of space, is not more than a canopy for a continuation of the landscape. At the second level, an extension of the open plan, projects into the exterior with balconies and terraces, further expanding and connecting to the landscape.
