Renovation of A Victorian Italianate Townhouse

Jersey City Heights, New Jersey

This Victorian Italianate Townhouse was built in 1887 and had the fortune of been well taken care of over its life. But although most of its East lake Style interior details have remained intact, many had been removed, damaged, or simply showed their age.
The façade was restored to its original glory using what could be salvaged or reproduced from what lay under cladding, as well as reconstructed from archival photos dating back 85 years.
For the interior, the intent was to restore and clean all detailing and source missing hardware and missing fireplaces with items of the time.
All bathrooms were updated with a clean and traditional aesthetic. And the Kitchen was renovated to create an open plan at the lower level.
The general intent was to respect the existing architecture of the house and celebrate it.
