Located in the land-marked district of Clinton Hill, Brooklyn, this new multi-family residential building was designed to fit within its rich historic architectural context of the traditional brownstones of the neighborhood. The first design challenge was to properly use traditional materials, details, and classical compositions, and still be able to create a modern interpretation. The new building is located in two lots, thus the next challenge was to create a street facade that is broken up to reduce the scale of the building. The fact that the two existing buildings flanking the site where not on the same plane, created the opportunity of expressing a shift in plane thru the use of an asymmetrical bay-window, adding another layer of scale and detail, helping the facade achieve the correct scale and appropriateness within its neighborhood context.
